After witnessing extremist and sectarian violence, the Nineveh region in Iraq requires major collaborative efforts among religious communities to build peace and drive post-conflict recovery. In response to this urgent need, the Religion & Security Council (RSC) and the University of Mosul have united to launch a new initiative: the Nināwā Forum on “Interreligious Dialogue for Peace and Living Together”, with the support of KAICIID International Dialogue Centre.
On April 28-29, the Nināwā Forum will engage local actors and stakeholders from diverse faith and professional backgrounds in a two-day meeting to discuss the way forward to advance social cohesion, cooperation for the common good, respect for human rights, inclusive citizenship and development.
Through dialogue sessions, the proceedings will address the current scenario, its most pressing challenges, and the future outlook from the perspective of the Nineveh community. The Nināwā Forum will serve as a platform for sharing best practices, lessons learned, and actionable strategies to strengthen interreligious dialogue and ensure peace and security for all components of Nineveh’s social and cultural fabric.
The Nināwā Forum will also feature the launch of the “Declaration for Peace, Dialogue, and Coexistence in Nineveh”, as a guiding document to inspire continuous interreligious engagement across the region.
The event will take place within the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the KAICIID Fellows Programme, and is designed by a network of KAICIID Fellows from Iraq, other MENA countries, and Europe.
The proceedings will be summarized in a study paper, including recommendations and policy proposals on how to enhance “Interreligious Dialogue for Peace and Living Together” in the Niniveh region.
