Fr. Aurelio Gazzera is Provincial Delegate of the Carmelite Mission in the Central African Republic. Priest in Bozoum (400 km north of the capital Bangui) since 2002, he is also Diocesan Director of Caritas and of Justice et Paix. His mission in Central Africa began in 1992. In more than 25 years, he has implemented various programs focused on education, agricultural and economic development, healthcare and refugees. During the most dramatic moments of the civil war, Fr. Gazzera was engaged in a major mediation activity between the militias, the government, and the population. On a daily basis, he provides the international community with regular updates on the situation in the country through his blog “News from Bozoum” published in seven languages. Given his experience on the Central African Republic, he often acts as a consultant for international organizations, experts, and journalists.
